Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
She knew what Ahere was thinking about. At least figured she did. Ahere always worried about everything, probably what made Devin worry about Ahere twice as much. Devin knew Ahere's family wouldn't dare attack her by herself but they may with Ahere there. She looked at her once again and sighed.
"Tell me what you want to get, I will get in quick get it and leave. You can just go into work..." she smiled a little hoping that would be ok.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Ahere sighed and shook her head. "I can't let you go in alone. It's not like they'd really attack me. I mean if they did it would be an accident, nothing really on purpose..." It was true but she was mainly saying it to make herself feel better. There wasn't much she wouldn't do to make herself feel better about her family. She loved them no matter what happened to her, but she couldn't get past the foreboding feeling.
Ahere sighed again as she stuffed her hands in the pocket of her hoodie, the bag bouncing against her leg. "I need to do this. I don't want to rely on other people my whole life... I can't chicken out just because I'm worried about you or my family. I'm sure things will work out for the best."

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
"There will always be people to help you, Ahere. No matter what anyone says you always need someone..." she watched the sidewalk as they walked. Devin figured Ahere would end up being the type of person that wanted to be completely independent. However she tried that would never be true. Everyone needed someone, anyway they were there, if it was just the thought of them that pushed her or someone how physically helped her. Someone would always be there...
She thought about her own brother. Devin might seem like there is not one to help her, that she was independent and strong. But in truth her brother and Ahere, if it was in mind or physically there, always helped her through everything. Her brother had taught her to be strong at a very young age and he was also the one who had taught her the golden rule. Even if she was the only one who followed it in this town, she treated everyone the same. That was until they did something to her or someone she loved. And even at that she knew that kindness to someone who hurt you and disliked you was the best weapon of all. "You can't do everything by yourself..." she mumbled as she continued walking beside her friend.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Ahere sighed and scratched her head. She knew that she was trying to not depend on anyone, being the only human in a family of Werecougar's had done that to her. She was made to be independent, to stand alone from everyone else. Even Devin had been spared all the truths of what happened behind closed doors. Her family struggled with money, food, and necessities for everyone. It didn't help that they were on the bottom of the totem pole in their community, money was scarce for them, people didn't always pay their bill because they didn't have too. And those who did the money went to Devin's family first. It was always pushed in her face when they didn't have enough food or enough money for clothing; she was always the first to be without.
Sighing again she admitted to herself that she wasn't such an independent person. She depended heavily on Devin, without her best friend she had no idea if she would survive the things she went through. Devin was her brick wall for support and her blanket for comfort, and she always would be. Even Randy and Devin's father were support lines for her, even if no one actually knew it. She touched her friend's arm and smiled a little, it was the only thing she could do to try and let Devin know what she meant to Ahere.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Devin didn't know why Ahere had suddenly laid her hand on her arm. She smiled and gave her friend a one armed hug anyway know that what ever was going through the other girl's head, it was something that had meaning. "Even if we are not blood, we are still family Ahere." she said lightly to her dear dear friend.
Devin really could not think of what life would be without Ahere and she didn't want to think of it. As long as she could remember they had been friends and there for each other through everything.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Ahere smiled at Devin, hugging her back. She was right, they were family, and Ahere loved spending her time with Devin and her family, probably more than she liked spending it with her own. Huffing she stopped a few feet from her house and shuddered, they were angry, she could tell without super hearing. She walked over to the bushes, closed the bag tightly so the wet Oregon weather wouldn't ruin the new clothing, and tucked it up under the brush. She shook herself visibly as she tried to stamp out the growing unease she was starting to feel. The emotions roiled in her stomach as she gazed at the porch.
"Well... Shall we...?"

"We shall..." Devin sent a smile to the worried Ahere and started towards the door of her family's, well old home. She could hear the anger in the house already. From the way Ahere filled with uneasiness, she knew Ahere could feel it. Devin was ready though and if any of them tried anything, it was not just Devin they would face.
Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Ahere sighed, opened the door slowly and peeked in. No one. Carefully she opened the door completely and made a mad dash up the stairs and into her room. She left the door open a crack for Devin to follow and quickly grabbed a few shoe boxes, threw off the lids and started going through her jewelry collection. Gently laying the beautiful vintage beads in the boxes. Closing the lids to the two she filled she taped them on so the necklaces, bracelets and earrings wouldn't escape if they had to make another mad dash to the door. There wasn't much in the closet she wanted, but she pulled out a bigger box and began sifting through the clothing, puling out a few ragged items before taking them to the little trinkets she had mainly received from Devin. Using the clothing she wrapped them up and set them in part of the box while stacking books on the other side.
"There... Done." She murmured as she gently placed a little stuffed animal on top and closed the box. She turned to Devin. "There isn't much else unless you wanna look..."

Devin shrugged "Its your stuff, thats all you want?" she asked placing the shoe boxes in the large box and lifting it up. She looked around the room at anything she may have missed.
"Pictures, cards, anything you may have." she dropped her voice "You have anything hidden?"

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
"Ach!" Ahere cried as Devin remind3ed her about anything hidden. "Yes! Money!" She wailed as she ran over to the false wall in her closet. After a few bumps with her fist she popped it open and pulled out the tiny safe. "Ugh what would I do if I forgot this?"
She sighed and tucked it under her arm as she wondered what to do about her family. "Would it be smarter to leave without them knowing or should I got find them....?"

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
"Let just leave, we don't want any thing to happen. Its good right and quite right now." She smiled and started out the door. She wondered for a minute if Ahere had anything else that she may have forgotten. Hoping not she made her way to the stairs and waited for Ahere.
Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Ahere slid down the stairs silently that would put about nearly any Werecougar to shame and was at the door before Devin could make a comment. "Come on let's go." She whispered as she pulled open the door, and slid out. She went over to the bushes she hid the bag earlier and pulled it out before she went back over to Devin.
"Lucky for me I have you oh super strong one." She laughed. "I don't know how I woulda carried all that down the stairs without making a sound and drawing their attention to me. Come on, let's go home before I gotta go to work." She blushed when she said the word 'home' while referring to Devin's house, but she couldn't wait to live there in relative peace.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
"Grrrr..." Devin held the box with one arm and made a muscle. "One iffy thing about being a were." she frowned while putting the box back into both her arms. Ahere calling Devin's house home made her smile as they started their way back.
Back at the house Devin's sat the box down in the corner of her room and turned to Ahere.
"The dresser over there is empty if you want to put your clothes away. You can push mine in the closet over and use half of it too." She smiled and went into the bathroom. After pulling the towel out she came back out, "Have anything that needs washed? I am going to be doing a few loads."

Ahere smiled and shook her head. "Honestly I didn't bring much of the clothing with me. there wasn't much that you would let me keep anyway when you saw it." She went over to the empty dresser and opened the top drawer. She put away her underwear, bras and socks then closed it. There wasn't much else in clothing to put away, but she took the new outfit she just bought and put the shirt in the second drawer and the jeans in the third. Smiling she set the little trinkets on top along with the shoe boxes of jewelry.
"The outfit i wore yesterday and my hoodie..." Ahere answered as she looked at her friend. "But I doubt you're going to let me keep those."

"Up to you." she shrugged and left the room calling, "You know where the wash room is!" In the room she loaded the washer with the towels and wash clothes she had taken from the bathroom. She started a load and went back to her room.
"You can have the bed, I am fine on the futon. If you want to see the basement so far you can." Devin ploped herself down on the futon and turned on the TV. "There is food in the fridge too if you want soemthing before work. I will walk you there when you are ready to go."
She knew Ahere probably didn't want the walk to work, but Devin had to go in anyway so Ahere could not fight it this time.

Ahere sighed and shook her head. Devin wouldn't complain now about the clothing but when she turned her back she was sure the clothing would go missing somehow. smiling to herself she went into the washroom and set the clothing to one side to be washed later. "The basement and can wait. I'll make a chicken salad if you've got the right stuff." She smiled and wandered down to the kitchen and started to pull out things for the salad. "Would you like one?" She called up to Devin

"Sure if there is enough!" Devin called back pushing herself off the bed and makeing her way down stairs. "I am starving, was going to wait till we got to thr resturant but since you are going to make something." she smirked and pulled out the bread. She turned and looked over Ahere's sholder as she pulled things out of the fridge.
"Mhmmm... Orange Juice." reaching around she grabbed the jug and pulled a glass from the shelves above. "Want some?

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Ahere smiled and shook her head. "AWESOME! You have Feta!! I haven't had feta in forever. It's the best cheese for this." She looked over at her friend. "Sure, Orange juice sounds great. OOO Balsamic... No Chicken though which is fine turkey is just as good if not better with Balsamic and Feta."
Pulling everything out she grabbed two bowls and filled them with lettuce and broken up turkey before topping them both with the feta and adding the balsamic. "My favorite..." She murmured as she took her fork and stabbed a large amount onto it before popping it into her mouth. It had been a very long time since she had feta cheese, it was expensive and her parents couldn't afford it often if not at all some years. An no one at home but herself liked balsamic so it was never bought. Sighing to herself she enjoyed the large bite she had just taken, it had been a very long time since she made her favorite salad for herself and Devin.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
"There is some shredded canned chicken in the pantry, thats what Grandma uses so dad keeps it in the house at all times." she smiled while pouring Ahere a glass of oj. After puting the juice back into the fridge she leaned back and sipped from her glass while watching Ahere make the salad. She giggled a bit at the face Ahere made when she took a bite of her own salad. She looked like she was in heaven and Devin was happy to see the girl smile. She took up her own bowl and ate a large bite of the cold crisp salad.
"Mmmm!" she shouted while chewing her bite. After swallowing it she pointed to a pad on the fridge that had a list started. "If you can think of anything you may want or need that isn't here, write it down. You and I can go for groceries tomorrow while we are out shopping. It needs done this weekend anyway and dad is at the restaurant the whole time. He needs to hire a few more people..." She knew walking down there with Ahere tonight would probably get her a few hours of Bar tending that her dad would ask her to do. Thankfully the town let her do it at only 16 since they had lost their two main bartenders in the past 3 months. She enjoyed it though and even if that was not why she was going down there, hanging around for a few hours while Ahere was working didn't bother her.
Devin's phone vibrated in mid chew of another bite she had taken. She growled and sat her bowl down while pulling out the phone. Her brother had sent her a text. She read it and looked up at Ahere, "Randy wants to know if you are his new baby sister." she laughed and took another fork full of her food.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Ahere smiled as she watched Devin enjoy the salad. She loved when people enjoyed the food she made. That was the only rewarding thing about working at the restaurant, the people enjoying the food. It made her feel good about herself knowing people enjoyed her food, even if they didn't know she was the one cooking it. She didn't dare tell anyone that she was the one in the kitchen cooking the food they ate, she was afraid Devin's dad and her dad may loose customers because a "human" is cooking the food in the kitchen. Some of the specials were in fact her idea and many people enjoyed them. When Devin's dad had asked her to be a cook instead of a server in the front she was completely surprised but she was right at home in the kitchen with all the giant ovens and cook tops. She could easily adjust recipes at the drop of a hat for any occasion, it made her quick on her feet.
She shook her head with a smile as Devin growled at her phone with a mouthful of salad as she took a sip of her drink. She choked and coughed as she slapped her chest while turning a bright red. "Are you serious?!? You're making that up, he so did not just ask that!" She cried as she finally got the oj down. "How did he find out? I mean you just asked me this morning!"

Devin laughed and held out her phone with the text on the screen. "He has been waiting for me to ask you." she smiled "Dad was trying to get the basement finished first but..." she stopped and pulled back her phone to answer the text. She looked up at Ahere and saw the question on her face from the cut off sentence. "After what happened with Kelly, well Dad talked about asking you early." her voice was low and sad.
She finished her salad and rinsed out the bowl, the shoved it into the dish washer. "Come on we need to get you to work." Devin walked by with her drink still in hand and took a drink while leaving the kitchen.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Ahere stuck her tongue out at Devin as she rinsed her bowl and put it into the dishwasher. She sighed and went to get her shoes as purse before she went to the door. Pulling on her shoes she checked the items in her purse before she looked over at Devin. "Let's go." She smiled. She walked int relative silence as Devin again chattered away about what they should do with the basement. She enjoyed listening to the excited girl as they walked to the restaurant. She was excited to work, she always enjoyed being at the restaurant and cooking. She enjoyed the feeling of being at the stoves and chopping up the items needed, and the money really wasn't bad.
At the Restaurant she waved at the few people working before disappearing into the back. Grabbing her apron she tucked her purse away into her locker and got ready to cook.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Like Devin figured her dad asked her to stay and help. Not on bar though, he asked her to waitress and needless to say she was pissed. The only job she hated in the whole place was dealing with peoples orders. Of course because she was friends with Ahere she got a hard time, mostly from the school kids, and glares from the older ones. Even if their food was fine they would bitch about it just to give her more of a hard time. She sighed and went back to her locker to change into the white button up shirt all the servers wore.
"Fuck serving." she looked at Ahere. "Debbie probably just called off so she can get laid tonight. This shit pisses me off." Devin sighed and tucked in the shirt into her black jeans before grabbing her black waitress apron and slammed her locker door shut.
"At least I will get to talk to you a bit." she laughed and went out to see what tables needed orders taken. Thankfully the restaurant was just a semi small place. Heaven, the other waitress that was on that night looked at her with a sigh of relief as she walked over to the bar were Heaven was getting a bill for one of her tables.
"Thank god you are here..."
"Eh, not happy about it."
"When are we?" Heaven laughed and left to hand the bill to her customer. Oliver, a young Irish bartender smiled at Devin. His mother was from the town, she had married and left, only to return when she found her son was also a were. Oliver's father was killed in an accident when he was 6 and his mother moved the two of them back from Ireland after that knowing it would be safer. He was a half breed but had respect of many, his accent was "imitating."
"Damn you for being here.." Devin leaned on the empty bar. Oliver laughed
"Sorry, guessing you were hoping to get back here?"
"Yea," The bell on the front door rang as a couple entered. Devin turned to them "Have a seat will be over in a sec.." she looked at Oliver who laughed at her 'oh so thrilled' face. She pushed off and went to the table pulling her pad out of her apron pocket.
"Can I get you something to drink? And any appetizers?" After taking down the order she went into the back to get their drinks.
"Joy joy!" She laughed filling a glass while looking at Ahere.

Re: The "Animals" and the "Pack"
Ahere sighed and shook her head. "At least it's work." She mumbled. There wasn't a chance in hell she would turn down any type of work if she was offered it. Work meant money and money was important to her, she needed it. Sighing again at her friend she went over to the tickets that were lining up on the turn style and began prepping the meals that seemed to have been there longer. A lot of it was rare steaks, nothing else, so it was easy for her to catch up. Just a quick sear on each side, a plate, and the food was out on the window to be served. In no time she had caught up with all the dinner items.
"I'm surprised Devin's dad would let the kitchen get so understaffed..." She thought to herself as she cleaned the grill top of the grease from the recently cooked steaks. She smiled meakly at Heaven when the girl came by to grab some of the orders, they never really got along unless they were at work together but she was thankful the girl was able to get over the "differences" to be nice to each other at wok if no where else. She laughed as she watched Devin complain to Oliver about him being on duty. Sher herself had never actually talked to Oliver, they usually worked different schedules; though now she was starting to work at any moment she could. Even closing nights by herself if she had to.
"Such a complainer." Ahere chided when Devin came over to give her the order for appetizers. "At least you're working. THAT is not something I would complain about." She shook her head, smirking at her friend as she whipped together the appetizers and slid them through the window. She waved as her friend walked away to bring the food to the table. It was the only thing "the pack" couldn't complain about, Ahere was quick in the kitchen and the food was always ready long before the alloted time for food to actually be ready in any other restaurant.
She leaned back on the prep table and sighed, thinking about what she could do to keep herself busy in the kitchen. She pulled open the industrial fridges and looked in, checking to see what fruit was in season; there was always a bulk of the season fruits meaning Ahere could use them and not get in trouble. The apples, pumpkins and cranberries were in season and Devin's dad seemed to have ordered a ton of excess; he was catching on to her. She blushed as she pulled out one apple, a pumpkin and a handfull of cranberries to test, they were perfect.
"We're going to have apple and pumpkin pie abd some cranberry tarts for desert!" She called through the window as she started prepping large amounts of the fruits for the desserts. Whenever she was on duty and it was a slow day she always made "special" desserts. It usually brought in mroe customers.

"You forget I don't really get paid!" she said carrying out the drinks and appetizer for the table. She had come back to the bar to grab another table a beer when Ahere yelled about the deserts. "Ohh!" Devin ran around to the kitchen. "Make some pumpkin tarts for us, just sit them back." she giggled and went back to give the 'dirty' his beer. They really had all kinds in this town, part of that drove her crazy. She turned and was starting back to the bar to ring of bills when a jock from school snapped and whistled at her. Ignoring him she passed him until he yelled her name/ She wheeled and glared at the boy.
"Yes?" she glanced at him and the 3 other boys at the table. The ordered some wings and Devin stormed off into the kitchen again. "Hot wings." she said clipping the order to the turn style. "You know... I am not a fucking dog. I am not going to do a flip or come running if you whistle at me." She grunted and leaned against the meat freezer. "That makes me so angry, then they act like I am stupid when I ignore them. What pisses me off more is they will not leave a tip." When Devin worked bar or server she always passed the tips to Ahere. It was her most of the time that was back there cooking, she did most of the work. And of course Devin didn't need the money, she got money from her dad when she needed it. "Thank god its not busy, I would have punched them."
